With all of the new advancements in teeth straightening technology, you may be left with more questions than answers when doing online research on Invisalign. To better help you in your research, we compiled some frequently asked questions and answers.
Treating your smile with Invisalign prevents more serious and costly dental issues from arising. It is important to understand that Invisalign does more than just give you a more visually appealing smile.
With properly aligned teeth, it will be harder for food particles to get trapped and less likely for you to have bad breath. You are less likely to develop gingivitis and periodontal (gum) disease after Invisalign.
If you had metal braces in the past, you will notice that Invisalign promotes better oral hygiene compared to metal braces. There is no need to purchase special brushing or flossing tool because Invisalign has no wire. This means that you can brush and floss your teeth without changing your current oral health routine. This advantage actually promotes better oral health compared to metal braces. Besides gaining confidence, your mouth will actually be healthier after Invisalign treatment.
Your dentist will prescribe an amount of time that you will wear your aligners before switching to a new set. The aligners are the clear trays that are used to move your teeth. If you wear them daily for at least 22 hours, you can plan on switching your aligners out biweekly.
Your dentist may give you the option to accelerate your treatment time with Propel. This will allow you to finish treatment 50% faster and switch your aligners out weekly rather than bi-weekly. To learn more about Propel and to find out if it is right for you, call OC Healthy Smiles at (714) 545-0484.
Your dentist may have a different suggested time than the estimated times above, so if you are unsure how long to wear your aligners, make sure to give your dentist a call.
When you first put in your Invisalign aligners, you may notice a slight lisp when you talk. Like all things, you have to take a couple days to get used to your aligners. The lisp will go away once you adjust to having the aligners in your mouth. It is important that you wear your aligners for 22 hours a day to ensure that your aligners will fit properly and avoid a lisp.
If you notice that you still have a lisp after the first week, contact your dentist so they can properly adjust the aligners.
